How Dental Veneers Can Transform Your Smile

If you’ve spent years feeling self-conscious about your smile, hiding your mouth to laugh, or avoiding photos, Cashmere Family Dentistry is here to help you uncover a confident smile! Cosmetic dentistry offers several solutions for transforming your teeth, including veneers. What started out as a Hollywood trend has exploded into the mainstream in recent years! Although you’ve probably heard of veneers, you may not be sure exactly what they are or how they work. Let’s take a closer look at everything our veneers have to offer! Keep reading below to learn how dental veneers can transform your smile.

What are veneers?

A veneer is a thin shell that is made out of porcelain or ceramic. Each veneer is custom-made in a dental lab to perfectly match your mouth and facial structure for the best fit and appearance. When our doctors apply veneers to your teeth, they can even them out, close gaps, cover dark stains, and create a more uniform appearance when you smile.

Veneers also have a translucent quality that allows light to reflect just as it would with your natural teeth. While veneers replicate the strength and resilience of natural tooth enamel, they won’t become discolored or fade over time. They can be a good option for you if you have:

  • discolored or stained teeth
  • chipped, broken, or worn down teeth
  • crooked, uneven, misaligned, or irregularly-shaped teeth
  • gaps between the teeth

Veneers offer a natural-looking smile for most Cashmere and Busk patients, depending on personal habits and any previous trauma, but they aren’t for everybody. That’s why it’s important to work with an experienced dentist to ensure veneers are right for you. Our doctors will only recommend the best treatment for your unique needs to guarantee all function is restored and a healthy smile is achieved!

How do veneers work?

The first step in the veneer process is a consultation in our Cashmere or Busk office. During this initial visit, you’ll meet our team, discuss the concerns you have about your smile, and work with one of our dentists to determine what you hope to achieve with treatment. Dr. Janie, Dr. Ryan, or Dr. Harris will analyze your smile to learn more about your oral habits, your bite, and the health of your gum tissue. This will help them determine the severity of whatever dental issue you’re dealing with. Once we determine your teeth are suitable for veneers, we’ll create a treatment plan around your unique needs and goals.

During the preparation phase, our expert team will remove about a one-half millimeter of tooth enamel to ensure it will be the same thickness after the veneer is added. This is what will give you a natural-looking smile! We’ll then take impressions of your teeth and send them to the special dental lab where the veneers will be constructed. It generally takes a few weeks on average for your custom veneers to be designed and delivered to us.

The final step in this process is the bonding phase. The veneers will be placed on your teeth to judge the fit, and our doctors will make any necessary adjustments at this time. The cement color we use will be determined based on your natural teeth in order to match the veneer as closely as possible. After thoroughly cleaning and etching the teeth, we’ll carefully bond them into place, applying a special light to help the cement harden more quickly. Your bite will then be evaluated and any extra cement will be removed. You’ll return to our office for a follow-up visit about two weeks later to ensure everything is as it should be.

What are the benefits of veneers?

There are many advantages to using veneers to improve the appearance of cracked, chipped, or discolored teeth. They can also be useful for anyone looking to alter the size and shape of their teeth while maintaining a natural look. Most people won’t even be able to tell you’ve had dental work done!

Veneers can be useful in cases where professional teeth whitening treatments haven’t been effective. Not only do they help cover stains, but they’re resistant to them, too! Veneers are also durable and long-lasting, as long as they’re properly maintained. At Cashmere Family Dentistry, we use cutting-edge technology and the latest dental techniques to help you get the most out of your veneers for many years to come.

Are there any downsides to veneers?

As with most cosmetic procedures, there can be a bit of discomfort associated with having dental veneers put on. We do our best at Cashmere Family Dentistry to keep you comfortable throughout the procedure so you won’t experience any pain while your teeth are being prepared or the veneers are being placed. The process can take several weeks to complete, so there will be a period where you need to be careful about what you eat and what activities you engage in. You should schedule the procedure for a time where you will be close to home and able to take it easy!
